During a meeting with IT Department officials, Shelar emphasized the importance of leveraging AI to boost industries. He said that AI can attract businesses, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Maharashtra's position in the global AI landscape.

"The AI era has begun, and Maharashtra must seize this opportunity," Shelar stated in an official statement. This initiative aligns with the central government's India AI Mission, which has a budget of ₹10,372 crore.

The India AI Mission aims to enhance the country's AI capabilities. It includes projects like the India AI Datasets Platform, innovation centers, and support for startups.

Starting in January 2025, the central government will collect non-personal datasets. This will build a comprehensive database for AI applications.

Shelar highlighted the need for Maharashtra to align with this national initiative. "Maharashtra must take proactive steps to integrate with the India AI Mission," he added. Integrating AI can ensure the state leads in AI innovation and job creation.

The draft policy will focus on using AI in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, education, and manufacturing. It will also support startups and skill development. By adopting AI, Maharashtra can drive economic growth and generate jobs for the youth. Maharashtra's initiative complements the central government's vision. This vision is to establish India as a global leader in AI technology.

The state is already using generative AI tools for welfare programs. These include direct benefit transfers and healthcare services.

Parag Jain Nainutia, an IT official, mentioned that Maharashtra is a strategic partner with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). They are using various tools to leverage citizen data.

Through the Bhashini application, several states are gathering citizen data. Maharashtra is capturing 146 parameters to build efficient databases.

The use of AI will help reduce the government's burden for service delivery. It will also aid in reducing road accidents.

Maharashtra's AI policy is a significant step towards technological advancement. It promises to drive economic growth and create numerous job opportunities.
